The Front Yards & Porches of Murfreesboro, Tennessee

First stop on the road north - Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Located about 30 minutes south of Nashville, this town was the site of Civil War Battle that resulted in the loss of 23,515 lives.

Rutherford County Courthouse, Tennessee

The town is built around the courthouse square and lovely historic homes line the streets that radiate from the square. My parents and I were gawking at the architecture and welcoming front yards and porches.

The good folks of Murfreesboro were trying to get to church while I was causing hate and discontent with my driving. So I pulled over and took a short walking tour and snapped some pictures.

These neighbors must motivate each other with their front cottage gardens and cute short fences.

Great front porches on otherwise modest homes are a perfect place to enjoy Zone 7a.

The trees were at the height of spring bloom. The tulip tree is related to the magnolia and used like the crabapple tree is used in Minnesota (placed in the middle of the front lawn, not that there's anything wrong with that).

This tudor has a boring yard but I like the house and it's named, "Gladstone." I like the idea of naming your house.

Okay, we'll let you get away with the cracked sidewalk but those boxwood need a break from the pruner.
